Why Are My Thighs Fat?

By | August 11, 2012

If you have fat thighs don’t be ashamed. A large percentage of women have this same problem.

Unfortunately, there is no magic pill you can take to make the fat instantly disappear.  The good news is, there are simple things you can do to help get rid of thigh fat. The first step is to know what causes fat thighs in the first place.

You may be surprised to know that having fat thighs may not even be your fault.  When women complain of having fat thighs, they are usually referring to the appearance of bumps and dimples in the skin. It is also commonly called cottage cheese. The medical term for this phenomenon is called cellulite. Cellulite usually forms around the areas of the thighs and butt.

Many doctors conclude that cellulite is caused by poor skin elasticity. Basically what happens is, fat cells become larger than the compartments that hold them, and form uneven layers of fat underneath the skin causing the cottage cheese look.

So why do fat cells get so fat? What are some of the causes of this fat thigh syndrome, and why has it decided to make a home on your thighs? The causes of cellulite are summed up in the list below. Understanding the leading causes of cellulite will help you manage and, where possible, prevent your cellulite.

Why You Develop Cellulite

It’s Your Mom’s Fault…or Maybe Your Dad’s
Genes play a huge role in determining whether you develop cellulite. Sneak a peek at your mom’s backside. If she has fat thighs, there’s a good chance you will too.

You Are Always Dehydrated
Cellulite is a mixture of fat and excess wastes that your body hasn’t yet eliminated. Drinking lots of water will help your body speed up the process of flushing out all the bad stuff, including excess fat and toxins.

You Still Eat Like a Teenager
A poor diet is one of the main culprits for causing cellulite. Pass on the lattes and donuts. Processed foods contain a lot of the toxins we discussed earlier that get trapped in the fat cells. Stick with foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Can anyone say “salad”?

You Smoke
Tisk! Tisk! Tisk! Need I say more? Besides all the other dangerous effects, smoking causes cellulite by damaging the connective tissue in your body.

You Never Leave The Couch
Being a couch potato leads to a sedentary lifestyle. This can cause a decrease in muscle tone and poor circulation.

Although there are many causes of cellulite, there are also many cellulite cures and treatments that help reduce the appearance of cellulite. Learn more about cellulite treatment options.
